Growing up as the second child of a Nicaraguan father and a Finnish mother, in a Nordic country, where standing out from the norm is frowned upon, Walt Miguel struggled to find his place. Being the only brown kid on the schoolyard in a small northwestern town in Finland in the 90’s, finding your own identity was difficult. If you didn’t look like everybody else you constantly had to prove that you belonged.
His first independently produced, mixed, mastered and promoted EP ‘Take A Sip’ was released in 2020 and has amassed close to 150 000 streams on Spotify alone and Walt Miguel has since, shared the stage with well known Swedish rap group Trainspotters, completed his first tour of Finland in 2022 and signed a record deal with Ninetone Records in 2023.
Inspired by the likes of J. Cole, Jessie Reyez and Russ, Walt Miguel’s musical style is clearly rooted in contemporary Hip Hop, yet you can still hear the influence that rock music and his Latin American heritage has in his work.
